This Memorial Day Soleil Organique® has set its sites on the fine men and women who selflessly sacrifice their lives to protect ours. For that, we are forever grateful.
And while Skin Cancer Awareness month may be drawing to an end, skin cancer poses a significant risk to our brave men and women stationed overseas on an everyday basis. ”UV damage is a serious health concern and is the last thing any soldier should have to contend with,” says S.O. Founder & CEO Valerie McMurray. For this reason, Soleil Organique® is donating 12,000 Sunscreen Sticks to Operation Gratitude  in support of our military troops stationed in various locations like the Middle East and South Korea.Â
Middle East summers can terrorize the troops with temperatures in Afghanistan reaching up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. “These fine men and women protect our country each day. At the very least, we can help protect their skin from harmful UV rays,” said McMurray.
In recent discussions with world leaders, President Barack Obama discussed a goal of withdrawing combat troops by the end of 2014 from Afghanistan. With a tour of duty in the desert, even an end-in-sight deadline like this provides little relief. “The possibility of these service people developing some form of  skin cancer is very real” says McMurray, “we think it’s important to reach out and help reduce their risk.”
Operation Gratitude seeks to lift morale, put a smile on a service member’s face & express our nation’s appreciation by sending care packages & letters personally addressed to U.S. Military deployed in harm’s way, their Children left behind and Wounded Warriors recovering in transition units. If you would like to learn more about Operation Gratitude or would like to join their efforts, simply visit the Operation Gratitude website, â€like†them on Facebook and “follow” them on Twitter.Photo credit: Cliff Williams and Operation GratitudeÂ
