Top 10 Memorial Day Sun Protection Tips

The National Council on skin cancer prevention recognizes May 25th , the Friday before Memorial Day as “Don’t Fry Day” in an effort to highlight sun safety. We’re passing along our Top 10 sun safety tips and wishing you the very best, most memorable, non-skin-threathening holiday possible.

  1. Don’t purposely tan or burn skin.
  2. Seek shade frequently.
  3. Avoid direct lenghtly sun exposure between peak sun hours of 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
  4. Wear sun protective clothing, sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat.
  5. Choose broad spectrum, naturally based sunscreen with SPF value of 15 – 45.
  6. Generously apply sunscreen to all exposed areas of skin.
  7. Miss a spot? Ears, back of knees, top of feet, neck and lips are often overlooked.
  8. Reapply sunscreen every two hours and more often if sweating or in water.
  9. Be extra cautious near reflective surfaces such as water. Water increases UV exposure by 25%.
  10. Sharing is caring. Pass the sunscreen to family members and friends.
